Black HERstory: Dominique Deveraux Lloyd

It takes a remarkable actor to play the role of a character to the point where whenever you see that actor you still think of the character that was played. {Sort of like how I feel about Danny Glover every time I see him -I see "Mista" from The Color Purple ---eh}. Diane Carroll played the role of Dominique Deveraux Lloyd on the hit night time soap opera Dynasty in the 80's. The character Dominique Deveraux Llyod was the jet setting wealthy chanteuse.
Diane Carroll, a regal beauty, was the first African American woman to star in her own television series, Julia. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for Julia in 1969 and won the Golden Globe Award in 1968.To say that Diane Carroll broke racial barriers in Hollywood, is an understatement.
